Sometimes you think you know a location so well because you’ve been there so much, but it turns out you don’t really know. My photographer friend Viktor showed me an unknown area (at least to me) in Shibuya that was like time-traveling for me to the Showa Era. Tiny izakaya shops (aka Japanese bars) in a tiny street, with entrances that were shoulder height for me (crazy!). It could almost be a museum. I wonder what it would be like if I lived in this era… And walk another 10 minutes and you’re by a skate park with barbed-wire fences and smooth concrete. Oh, Shibuya, you never cease to amaze me.
何回も何回も同じ場所に行ってると、大体はもう知っていると思いがちだけど、実はそこまで知っていなかった。そういうときありませんか？年末に友達のヴィクターさんが、私が今まで知らなかった渋谷に連れて行ってくれました。とても昭和チックな小さな道に、何件もの小さな居酒屋がずらり。お店の入り口も私の肩ぐらいまでしかなかったので、びっくり！ちょっとした博物館みたいで、すべてが新鮮だった。昭和の頃に生きていたら、どんなだったんだろう。。そして、あと１０分も歩けば、まるで違う世界。ワイアーのフェンスに、コンクリートの谷でできているスケートパーク。渋谷は本当に面白いね。
